canning ring pumpkin

I recently bought a case of small canning jars for a project I had in mind using the jars (it's for Christmas, so it will come later), but I wanted to also come up with ways to use the lids and the rings that screw on over the lids. So today I'm going to show you the first of 3 projects I've done using the 3 parts of the jars ~ a cute pumpkin made out of the rings!

I know I'm not the first to think of this and you've probably seen it on Pinterest, so I'll just give you a quick run down of what I did.

First, I spray painted the rings with Krylon Pumpkin Orange. When they were dry I used a piece of orange yarn to tie them all together into a circle and stuck a cinnamon stick in the middle.

I didn't want the rings to move around or the cinnamon stick to fall out, so I put a little bit of hot glue around the cinnamon stick on the top and bottom of the pumpkin.

To cover the glue on the top and give the pumpkin a cute finishing touch, I tied a piece of twine around the cinnamon stick. I didn't worry about the glue on the bottom since it doesn't show anyway. This is 2 coats of paint and as you can see it didn't cover the rings completely since they're so smooth. If you want better coverage, try sanding them a little bit before you paint. I really like the 2 tone look though. I think it gives the pumpkin a little bit more of a rustic look, which is exactly what I'm going for this holiday season.

After drying time, it took less than 10 minutes to put the pumpkin together!

I love this addition to my fall decor!

Check back soon to see how I used the jars and lids!

spider wreath

So. Crafting pretty much came to a complete halt in my house this summer, hence the blog silence. For whatever reason, it just didn't happen. But now that fall ~ my favorite season ~ is here, I have ideas for some things that I will be posting about in the next little while.

First, this cute spider wreath!

The silver web part is a placemat I saw at Z Gallerie a few weeks ago and it just screamed Halloween to me. I wasn't exactly sure what I was going to do with it when I bought it, but I knew I wanted to think of something and it didn't take long to decide on the wreath idea. Who doesn't need a new wreath, right?

The spider is from Tai Pan and I love that it has a little bit of a glam look to go with the silver web.

So basically all I did was wrap some strips of black fabric from my stash around a styrofoam wreath and then hot glued the placemat to the back and trimmed the edges. The spider is stuck on with some clear thread and hot glue.

That's it! Simple to do, and I love how it turned out!

Halloween plate

I love to decorate for fall, but I have never been a big Halloween fan so I don't have much in the way of decorations for that little non-holiday. I decided to add a little something this year and this is what I came up with.

All I had to buy was the piece of paper. I already had everything else! The only thing not pictured is black spray paint which I already had too.

First I spray painted the back side of the plate black

then Mod Podged the paper onto the front
I didn't take pictures of this part, but after it was dry I just flipped the plate over and used an exacto knife to cut the extra paper off. I also put a layer of Mod Podge on the back to seal the black paint so it wouldn't get chipped or scraped.

Then I just stuck the vinyl numbers on! I already had them from another project I will show you later. You can see in this picture why I painted the back of the plate. I cut the paper slightly smaller than the plate so the edges would be glued down all the way, so I wanted the black to show through instead of just the clear plate.

Fast, easy, fun, and inexpensive! What more can you ask for?

Happy Halloween!
