canning ring pumpkin

I recently bought a case of small canning jars for a project I had in mind using the jars (it's for Christmas, so it will come later), but I wanted to also come up with ways to use the lids and the rings that screw on over the lids. So today I'm going to show you the first of 3 projects I've done using the 3 parts of the jars ~ a cute pumpkin made out of the rings!

I know I'm not the first to think of this and you've probably seen it on Pinterest, so I'll just give you a quick run down of what I did.

First, I spray painted the rings with Krylon Pumpkin Orange. When they were dry I used a piece of orange yarn to tie them all together into a circle and stuck a cinnamon stick in the middle.

I didn't want the rings to move around or the cinnamon stick to fall out, so I put a little bit of hot glue around the cinnamon stick on the top and bottom of the pumpkin.

To cover the glue on the top and give the pumpkin a cute finishing touch, I tied a piece of twine around the cinnamon stick. I didn't worry about the glue on the bottom since it doesn't show anyway. This is 2 coats of paint and as you can see it didn't cover the rings completely since they're so smooth. If you want better coverage, try sanding them a little bit before you paint. I really like the 2 tone look though. I think it gives the pumpkin a little bit more of a rustic look, which is exactly what I'm going for this holiday season.

After drying time, it took less than 10 minutes to put the pumpkin together!

I love this addition to my fall decor!

Check back soon to see how I used the jars and lids!
